   I Wanna be a Cowgirl

I used to wanna be a cowgirl
A hat plopped atop my head
Wearing the dresses with fringes
A gun on a stand by my bed

A rough and tumble woman
I thought I’d like to be
Not the shy little girl I was
It was a different kind of me

And I’ll bet many little girls
Back quite a few years ago
Envied Annie Oakley
Sitting on a horse just so

There used to be cowgirls
Even earlier before TV
Radio shows were popular
Now that really ages me

Dale Evans was so lovely
She was a lady that’s for sure
Riding side by side with Roy
She seemed so sweet and pure

I would have traded places
And given the old west a whirl
Oh yes, back in the day
I wanted to be a pretty cowgirl!
